RECO

REG 5 SEP 16

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG.

18th July, 1916.

With reference to my cypher telegram of the 25th of May, I have the honour to inform you that I understand from Messrs. Reiss & Co. that negotiations are progressing in London for the elimination of Messrs. Sanders Rehders & Co. from any participation in the Agency of the Texas Oil Company in South China. I am also informed that Mr. G. B. Dodwell, of the Firm of Messrs. Dodwell & Co., on learning the position of Messrs. Reiss & Co. vis à vis Messrs. Sanders Rehders & Co. in this matter, declined to have any dealings with Messrs. Sanders Rehders & Co.

There seems, therefore, now a prospect of this

matter being settled in a manner satisfactory to British inte -rests.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

ANDREW BONAR LAW, M.P..
